From the corner office...
Summer is beginning to wind down, and the kids are out shopping for back to school clothes. We at the Building Center have had a good year so far with double-digit increases over 2009. When new housing slows down as it has in the past few years, most people renovate their homes. The number one project around the house is the kitchen. That’s why we completely renovated our kitchen and bath showroom. It’s designed to give homeowners a taste of the possibilities. Did you ever notice when you have company over, almost everyone congregates in the kitchen and stays there because of the aromas emitted from the stove and oven. Please visit our very capable staff. George and Mari will be happy to help you design your next kitchen and bath project. You may notice a new sparkle to the Building Center these days. That is due to the new coat of paint on the main buildings in Gloucester. We also re-sided some buildings and replaced some roofs.

Also, an old set of salad tongs can clean those hard to reach places in downspouts when they get clogged

Market Information
We found a surge in activity in the first part of the year with a more sustainable level of activity in the late spring and summer months. Commodity prices surged in the spring but have since retreated. Housing demand is nowhere near the level of four or five years ago however there is some percolation in the market. The treated lumber market is low and the fir plywood market is falling, but the price of spruce is on the rise. Mills will continue to adjust their production levels in order to meet the level of demand.
